in various fields.
OBJECTIVE:
Generating a good understanding of RP history, its development and applications.
Expose the students to different types of Rapid prototyping processes, materials used in
RP systems and reverse engineering.

UNIT II REVERSE ENGINEERING AND CAD MODELING 10
Basic concept- Digitization techniques – Model Reconstruction – Data Processing for
Rapid Prototyping: CAD model preparation, Data Requirements – geometric modeling
techniques: Wire frame, surface and solid modeling – data formats - Data interfacing, Part
orientation and support generation, Support structure design, Model Slicing and contour
data organization, direct and adaptive slicing, Tool path generation.

Stereolithography (SLA): Apparatus: Principle, per-build process, part-building, post-build
processes, photo polymerization of SL resins, part quality and process planning, recoating

applications.Fused deposition Modeling (FDM): Principle, details of processes, process

SDM and applications. Selective Laser Melting, Electron Beam Melting – Rapid
manufacturing.
